“Youth QUEST Central Grand Opening”
At-risk youth in Greater Moncton will be more likely
to get the crucial help they need and less likely to embrace a life
focused on the streets as Moncton Youth Residences Inc. (MYR) opens
its new resource centre in Moncton’s longest standing fire hall.
Built in 1899, the No.2 Fire Hall located at 199 St. George Street
has now become Youth QUEST Central. MYR has not only successfully
transformed the exterior of the building back to its original heritage
but it has also transformed the interior of the building to into a
functional space to service the at-risk and homeless youth of the
greater Moncton area.
The Grand Opening of Youth QUEST Central is scheduled for October
31st at 10:00 am with a special address by the Honorable Premier Bernard
Lord. Youth QUEST Central Capital Campaign Chairperson Mr. Francis
McGuire and MYR Executive Director Mel Kennah will also be addressing
the public at the Grand Opening ceremony. As the
doors of Youth QUEST Central open it will now be possible for government
and community agencies to address the needs of their youth clientele
in one central location. This “one stop shop” for youth will offer
many services such as counseling, information sessions, academic
upgrading, laundry and showers facilities; use of phone, computer
and fax; and a possible youth clothing depot and a sheltered woodworking
shop.
Thanks to the ongoing support of donors and volunteers the Capital
Campaign has been successful in raising nearly $1.3 million for this
project.
